9/9/08 - I started school yesterday!
I go to school every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30am to noon. I love eating the yummy lunch that my mom packs for me and I have so much fun there!
7/2/08 Surgery Update
After Calvin's complications from surgery and subsequent surgeries, he has been slowly recovering and is now back to his normal self. During recovery, he became addicted to watching his DVDs and YouTube videos. A big thank you to those who prayed for him and kept him company.
6/9/08 Surgery Day
This was Calvin at the UCLA Hospital, getting ready for his circumcision and corrective surgery. He was very brave and am recovering well. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and support. And a great big thanks to his doctors!
5/18/08 Big Winner at the LAUSD Family Picnic!
We attended a Family Picnic hosted by the LAUSD Deaf & Hard of Hearing Infant Support Services. Calvin is one lucky boy because he won 2 prizes during the raffle drawing! First prize was a grocery bag from Trader Joes with lots of goodies as seen here, and the other one was a Kaola bear and his very first bookbag from Cochlear. We also got to meet with lots of other families in this service that live in our neighborhood.
5/10/08 Just So Tired
I'm on my way to a Mother's Day party munching on one of my favorite snacks. But I was just so darn tired I fell asleep eating it.
5/10/08 Look At Me...
I'm standing on my own!! That's me watching my Mommy and Me DVD in the picture. I still don't like to stand on my own. But if they're going to play my DVD, I'll let them do whatever they want.
4/27/08 Can you hear me now?
We picked up Calvin’s hearing aid on Friday, the 25th. He has a Phonak Una hearing system with earmold. Calvin has not been happy with the aid in his ear and we have been constantly battling with him to keep it on. The audiologist tells us that the kids eventually give up the battle. To keep us from losing the aid, it is attached to a clip, clipped onto his shirt.
We will hopefully see improvement in Calvin’s comprehension of words and in his verbalization. Calvin will be evaluated soon by a speech therapist to see if he should start getting speech therapy.
4/18/08 Curious Calvin Strikes
We were so busy because of my appts that mommy had to resort to McDonald's drive thru for lunch. She loved me so much she washed my bottles first thing when we got home. She left me on the floor... boring...
I got curious and starting checking out some paper bag she left on the floor. Turns out I found a McChicken sandwich... I started chomping on the bun. Very tasty. Then I moved on to the patty... who needs a happy meal?
4/16/08 Update from Mommy
Hearing Loss – Calvin was finally diagnosed with normal hearing in the left ear, and moderate hearing loss in his right microtia ear. Moderate hearing loss means that with just his right hearing alone, a conversation would sound like whispers to him. The doctors recommend that we get a hearing aid for him so that he can have close to normal hearing. We will be picking up his hearing aid in a week. His hearing aid and moldings are not covered by insurance but Westside Regional Center will be reimbursing us.
Intervention Program – Through Regional Center, Calvin is eligible for an intervention program. The program is set-up like a pre-school for infants and toddlers with developmental risks and disabilities. There are various programs around our area that I have been checking out and Regional Center will fund me for the program that I like best. Hands down, UCLA Intervention Program is considered top-tier and that's the one I will be enrolling Calvin in. All the programs involve therapists and early childhood educators, but UCLA's team also includes Developmental-Behavioral Pediatricians. It also makes sense for us to go to UCLA since all of Calvin's specialists are with UCLA.
Hypospadias Repair Surgery – The surgery date is set for June 9th, while Rich's mom is visiting. I figured that Calvin will need extra snuggles and care during his recovery.
General Update – Calvin's cruising and able to stand on his own for a few seconds. He doesn't say words yet but is able to mimic some sounds. He can sign language for more, can high-five, clap, play silly Chinese hand games, pick his nose, play peek-a-boo, and flex and shout. He likes to take Mommy's hair and brush it on his face. Calvin is very ticklish during diaper changing and is just a very silly boy. He dances when music plays and loves to press anything that play music. It makes him super happy when Daddy and Mommy sing along! Calvin also likes to feed other people when he no longer wants to feed himself.
